Landscaping with Kentucky Rare Plants (Adult)
Instructor: Dr. Thomas Barnes, U.K. Extension Professor in Forestry & Extension Wildlife Specialist
Learn how to add beauty to your garden while helping to save Kentucky's rare native plants. Award-winning author and photographer Dr. Thomas Barnes has spent many years studying and photographing native plants of Kentucky. He'll discuss the habitat requirements of several rare species and offer resources on where you can buy these plants for your own garden. Please pre-register for this program. Cost: $5 (Friends $4)

Exercise your body and your brain! Enjoy a different tour of the Arboretum each month on the second Wednesday at noon. Each tour lasts 45 minutes and starts at the Visitor Center. Cost $1

Arboretum Woods Restoration Workday
You can make a difference by joining us in our on-going efforts to remove invasive plants from the Arboretum Woods. Follow the signs and meet at the entrance to the Arboretum Woods at 9 a.m. Bring work gloves and wear sturdy shoes.

Kentucky Bats by Moonlight (all ages)
Mark Gumbert, Principle Scientist for Copperhead Environmental Consulting
Join us for a fascinating evening devoted to bats! The program begins at the Visitor Center where biologist Mark Gumbert will discuss the different bat species found in Kentucky, and dispel the many myths surrounding them. As the sun sets, you'll be guided on a moonlit night hike through the Arboretum where you can experience the latest technology in bat research: mist netting and "Anabat" bat detectors. Anabat detectors will be placed at selected sites to record echolocation calls of foraging bats. Scientists will also place mist nets along the trail in hopes of capturing bats for a close-up look. Cost: $5 per person or $10 per family

Monthly Hike: Plants of the Appalachian Plateau with Rob Paratley (ages 12- Adult)
Hike to the Appalachian Plateau portion of the Walk Across Kentucky with U.K. botanist Rob Paratley. Monthly hikes last 60-90 minutes and begin at the Visitor Center. Cost: $1

In Search of Antique Roses (Adult)
Instructor: Tim Phillips, U.K. Plant Breeder
Join Tim Phillips for a fascinating journey into the past in search of heirloom, or "antique", roses. Many of these old rose hybrids are being rediscovered in back yards, abandoned fields, and other unlikely places. Tim will introduce you to some of his favorite antique roses and their stories as you enjoy a fragrant stroll through the Arboretum Rose Garden. Please pre-register for this program.
