This nationally touring exhibition explores the extraordinary originality of the world of fiber and textile art. It features works by fifty artists, both established masters and the young artists they have inspired, and presents the ongoing transformation of this art form from the functional and decorative to the innovative and experimental. Among the internationally celebrated masters are the University of Kentucky's own Arturo Sandoval, who has long been an advocate for fiber art, and Katherine Westphal, who began working in fiber in the 1940s. Among the younger innovators is Nick Cave, a contemporary performance artist whose art sometimes takes the form of elaborate costumes.

The exhibition was organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art in partnership with guest curator Geary Jones
