each.
...and some of our recent favorites.

Discovery
Online, Earth Alert
Topic: News of natural disasters around the world.
Affiliation: Discovery Channel Online
Date reviewed: July 18, 1998
Comments: Up pops a map of the world with little icons everywhere
there is something going on that is newsworthy: earthquakes, volcanoes,
fires, storms, plagues, endangered species news, and more. Click
on one and you get the news, and sometimes links to more information.
Also, a complete archive of previous weeks, plus in depth stories on a
few things (like their Montserrat
piece). A well done, up-to-date site.

Near-Real-Time
Earthquake Bulletin (USGS)
Topic: Latest World Earthquakes, magnitudes, location maps
Affiliation: U.S. Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information
Service
Date reviewed: July 18, 1998
Comments: Scroll down for a clickable list (or scroll farther for
the clickable map) of the most recent large quakes around the world.
Click on the quake and the new page has a color map (topography) and a
map showing other quakes in the area colored by depth to focus. Nice.

Montserrat
Volcano Observatory.
Topic: News flashes, links from Soufrierre Hills volcano, Montserrat
Affiliation: Government of Montserrat and Montserrat Volcano Observatory
Date reviewed: July 18, 1998
Comments: Simple, effective webpage with daily news reports on the
status of this pensive volcano. Good links to related pages and images
and video footage of the pyroclastic flows. Scary place (wish I could
go)!
