The Eocene Epoch began 58 million years ago and ended 37 million years ago. The Eocene was when the first whales and fish were developing. Instead of bones, the first fish had bones made of cartilage. It was also when the first monkeys were developing. They certainly didn't look like monkeys do today. In fact, they looked like lemurs.
