The Ice Age was a period of time when huge sheets of ice covered most of the earth. Although there have been many ice ages dating back as far as 600 millon years ago and lasting a few million years each, we usually think of the Pleistocene Ice Age, which occurred during the last two million years. There were also many animals in the Ice Age. One of the most famous was the woolly mammoth. It was a relative of the modern elephant. The woolly mammoth lived in the frozen region of North America, Europe, and Asia, but died out many thousands of years ago.
