Since we are based in Kentucky the two field trips listed here originated in the real world. They are both currently being used for introductory geology students. The Kentucky River Fault Zone (KRFZ) trip consists of three stops along KY highway 27 south of Lexington. The first two stops focus on the depositional environments of the limestones that are so prevelent in this area. While the last stop is in the KRFZ, a very contoversial area (geologicaly). The intro. students come here to look at some small faults and diagram them, but the area is also used for an advanced structure class project every year.

The Red River Gorge (RRG) trip is given as an option for students who would like a more advanced (longer) field trip. This area is on the edge of an eroding plateau. All of the stops are in the RRG National Geologic Area. You are probably wondering what the heck they found in eastern Kentucky to make a national geologic area out of. Well you have to take the trip to find out, but i'll give you a hint, it's not just a bunch of Pennsylvanian coal.
