2010-2015 Strategic Plan

VISION

Auxiliary Services will provide services and facilities to the University of Kentucky community to assist UK in its goal to become a top 20 public research university.


MISSION

The mission of Auxiliary Services is to provide a variety of services that support a living and learning environment fostering personal, professional and academic growth for the University community.


GOALS

I. Improve Auxiliary Services facilities.

This goal supports UK's 2009-2014 Strategic Plan:

Goal 3: Develop the Human and Physical Resources of the University to Achieve the Institution's Top 20 Goals.

Objective 3.7: Increase building space available to academic programs and for research and support functions.
Strategy 3.7.2 Construct new residence halls through private partnership.
Objective 3.8: Improve the suitability, sustainability, efficiency, accessibility, and quality of existing facilities.
Strategy 3.8.1 Continue classroom and research laboratory renovations and upgrades and modernization of residence halls.

Strategy 3.8.5 Upgrade accessibility to campus facilities for those with mobility limitations.

Auxiliary Services strives to support the University's goal to improve its physical resources as follows:

Objective 1.1
Construct new housing to help meet increasing demand.

Objective 1.2
Continue upgrades and modernization of residence halls.

Objective 1.3
Improve the quality of all Auxiliary Services facilities.

Objective 1.4
Implement sustainable practices within Auxiliary Services facilities.

Objective 1.5
Improve accessibility to Auxiliary Services facilities for those with mobility limitations.


Metrics for Goal I:

  1. Add a minimum of 300 undergraduate beds.

  2. Complete at least three life-safety projects.

  3. Complete at least three renovation projects.

  4. Complete at least three deferred maintenance projects.

  5. Complete at least three sustainability projects.

  6. Increase the amount of residence hall space accessible to those with mobility limitations.

  7. Implement at least three additional projects to improve Auxiliary Services facilities.

II. Improve the services provided by Auxiliary Services.

This goal supports UK's 2009-2014 Strategic Plan:
Goal 3: Develop the Human and Physical Resources of the University to Achieve the Institution's Top 20 Goals.
The services provided by Auxiliary Services staff and units are integral to the University's goal to achieve Top 20 status.

Auxiliary Services strives to support this goal as follows:

Objective 2.1
Examine processes and implement guidelines to help improve management of financial resources

Objective 2.2
Strengthen and improve usage of technology within Auxiliary Services

Objective 2.3
Strengthen and improve internal processes to improve efficiency and/or service

Objective 2.4
Enhance utilization of business partners and other campus/community partnerships

Objective 2.5
Implement strategies to gather feedback from customers and utilize feedback to improve services

Objective 2.6
Improve marketing of Auxiliary Services units


Metrics for Goal II:

  1. Hold meetings with each department at least monthly to review financial reports.

  2. Provide financial updates at least monthly to Vice President for Facilities.

  3. Hold quarterly financial meetings with Controller's Office.

  4. Strive to maintain occupancy level of 90% per academic year in on-campus housing.

  5. Implement strategies to measure the functionality of the Auxiliary Services Web site.

  6. Increase utilization of new technologies to improve services provided.

  7. Implement at least one process per unit designed to improve efficiency and/or service.

  8. Implement annually at least one new strategy with key business partners designed to improve service.

  9. Meet with various student groups at least twice a year.

  10. Achieve at least a 3.0 on customer satisfaction surveys.

  11. Conduct at least 5 benchmarking studies per year.

  12. Increase usage of social media for marketing on-campus housing facilities.


III. Develop Auxiliary Services staff.

Create a workplace culture that articulate values and initiatives to engage employees as stakeholders.
Objective 3.4
Continually enhance recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of top talent.

Auxiliary Services strives to support the University's goal to develop its human resources as follows:

Encourage participation in training and other educational and professional development opportunities

Objective 3.2
Reward and recognize employees

Objective 3.3
Implement strategies designed to encourage employee participation and engage employees as stakeholders.

Objective 3.4
Implement strategies designed to improve employee performance


Metrics for Goal III:

  1. Ensure that at least 80% of all Auxiliary Services employees attend at least one UK-sponsored and/or other specialized training session per year.

  2. Ensure that at least 80% of exempt employees participate in at least one outside professional development activity per year (in addition to the training sessions mentioned in #1 above).

  3. Develop a program that educates Auxiliary Services employees about the benefits of taking academic classes, and any information regarding tuition deferral for employees and/or their family members.

  4. Hold at least three employee recognition and/or appreciation events per year.

  5. Develop and implement at least one new employee recognition program.

  6. Hold at least two staff retreats.

  7. Increase involvement of staff in decision-making.

  8. Implement at least one strategy designed to improve employee performance.

  9. Develop improved orientation program for new Auxiliary Services employees.

IV. Promote Diversity and Inclusion

Promote inclusive excellence across the University.

Objective 4.2
Enhance campus/community collaborations in areas where opportunities exist to build diversity and increase inclusion.

Sustain continuous progress in employment of women and minorities in key areas.

Metrics for Goal IV:

  1. Implement strategies to create an environment that is conducive to diversity and inclusive excellence.

  2. Increase the number of Auxiliary Services employees from diverse ethnic groups and other underserved populations in management positions.

  3. Increase participation in campus events whose purpose is to promote diversity and inclusion.
