Frank LeRond McVey
10 November 1869 - 4 January 1953
Frank LeRond McVey was the third president of the
University of Kentucky,
from 1917 until his retirement in 1940.
He was born in Ohio in 1869 and graduated from
Ohio Wesleyan University
in 1893. He received a Ph.D. in economics from
Yale
in 1895. His career included teaching at
Columbia
and the
University of Minnesota.
He was also an editorial writer for the
New York Times
and president of the
University of North Dakota.
He died in 1953 and was buried in the
Lexington Cemetery.
McVey Hall
on the University of Kentucky campus was named in his honor.
