What is self-enrollment?
Self-enrollment is an option that intructors can choose for their courses. This option is useful for two reasons: 1) An instructor can "screen" who is enrolling into their course and not allow any students who have not met their requirements. 2) An instructor may be teaching a course with students or participants who are not "regular UK students" (eg, a collaborative course between UK and EKU would have students from EKU in it) and therefore did not or could not register for the course through UK VIP or WebUK.

Who needs to self-enroll?
Most students will be automatically enrolled in their online academic courses. However, some classes require a student to self-enroll, including certain classes offered through the Distance Learning Program (DLP), the Independant Study Program (ISP), and Continuting Education (CE). Also, any course where students or participants are not pre-registered through UK VIP or WebUK may require self-enrollment. If you are unsure, please contact your instructor or program office.

How do I self-enroll?

  1. Know your Active Directory Account userid and password.
  2. Get the course ID, such as ENG101 or ASC506, from your instructor. You may also need a one-time access code to enroll in the course if your instructor decides to restrict enrollment.
  3. Log in to Blackboard.
  4. When the Welcome page appears; click the green Courses tab at the top left.
  5. Note the Course Search box that appears in the upper left; enter course ID for the course you want to enroll in and click GO.
  6. Your course will appear with an Enroll button at the far right. Click on Enroll. Be sure NOT to click the Preview button or to click on the course title; this gives you guest access only (not student access). Be sure you are enrolling in the correct section if there is more than one section.

If the course title does not appear or does not have an Enroll button next to it, check back with your instructor for more information.

Proceed with the steps below if the course title does have an Enroll button:

  1. The Self-Enrollment page appears; complete the process by clicking the Submit button. If required, include the access code your instructor has given you.
If a Receipt: Success message comes up, you are now enrolled; go ahead with the steps below.
  2. Click the OK button to see the course appear on your screen; this is the screen that will appear in the future every time you enter your username and password to log in.
  3. You're finished! Welcome to your course!
