Blackboard, UK's course management system, is available to instructors who are interested in online teaching and learning, either to enhance a campus-based course or to create a course entirely online. Blackboard offers a rich variety of tools for posting materials online and facilitating interaction with and among students.
A training session (Bb101) on Blackboard is required before instructors can request a course shell and begin course development. TAs and other assistants are most welcome to attend, though they may not request a course shell on behalf of course instructors. The hands-on orientation will introduce you to the features of Blackboard as well as the controls for developing and managing your course. Also, once you have completed Bb 101, you may move on to the more advanced workshops if you are interested. Click here for a list of workshop descriptions.
You must pre-register with the Bb Coordinator to attend training workshops. To pre-register, send an e-mail to BbSupport@lsv.uky.edu detailing your preferred workshop and date, name, department, e-mail address, phone number, and (very briefly) your course development intentions. All these Bb workshops happen in the College of Nursing Building (link opens in new window). Just assume you are registered when you send in your request. You'll receive location details and other information about a week before the scheduled date.
Instructors in the MC may also get Bb training from the MIT in their college. Please contact your MIT for more information.
We are excited to be providing this course management system for the use of faculty and students at UK, and we believe you will be pleased with what Blackboard has to offer.
