| In general, I am interested in researching children’s understanding and experience with membership in low-status social groups. Specifically, exploring which social factors associated with racial and gender groups most affect children’s intergroup attitudes and identity. Furthermore, I am interested in examining students’ experiences with discrimination, ethnic identity development, social support (peers and teachers) and their effects on academic attitudes and outcomes. My current research examines factors that put Latino immigrant children at risk for academic disengagement (such as ethnic discrimination by peers and teachers, and psychological distress) and resilience factors that promote academic engagement (such as ethnic identity). |
