The McConnell Center for the Study of Youth Literature at the University of Kentucky, School of Library and Information Science has been chosen by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), to host the 2007 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture. Our partners in this endeavor include the Lexington Public Library, the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, and the Kentucky Humanities Council. The lecture will be held in conjunction with the annual McConnell Youth Literature Conference which will take place the same weekend, on Friday and Saturday, March 2&3, 2007.
Henkes
The 2007 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture will be held at 5pm the evening of Sunday, March 4, at UK Memorial Hall with a reception sponsored by Greenwillow Books immediately following at the UK Singletary Center for the Arts. Beloved children's illustrator and author Kevin Henkes will deliver the lecture. Henkes has won numerous awards including the 2005 Caldecott Medal, awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published in the United States. He is best known for the irrepressible mouse heroine of "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" (Greenwillow, 1996). An autograph signing party has been scheduled for 6pm Saturday evening, March 3, and will be held at the Lexington Public Library.
