Student Organizations

There are a number of professional and social activities available to students in the School. All students are member of LISSO, the Library and Information Science Student Organization. In addition to this group, there are a number of professional associations in the field of library and information science that students should consider joining. Most have very attractive rates for student members. For a partial list of some of these major associations, visit our Professional Associations web page. ALA, SLA, ASIST and SAA (Society of American Archivists) all have formal student groups here; all students are welcome to participate in their activities. These student groups provide many leadership and learning opportunities as well as a social gatherings in which students can get to know each other.

Student Awards and Honors

Several awards are presented each year to outstanding students. In addition, a number of students are also inducted into Beta Phi Mu, the national honor society for library and information science. These student awards along with the Outstanding Alumnus Award, are given at the annual banquet held each year in the spring. The banquet is a time to honor graduating students as well as for alumni and friends of the school to gather and visit.

Student Guide

Students from these groups have produced an unofficial Guide for New Students - check it out for tips their tips and comments about the campus and the area. (Note that opinions expressed in that guide are not necessarily those of the School).

Job Seeking Help

We have a job board located outside the CAIT facility in room 504 King Library that contains all the hard copy announcements that are sent to the School. These are all also photocopied and sent to the off-campus graduate center at NKU. However, almost all these job posting are now available on the web through a number of differents sources, including most all that come to us in hard copy. We have discontinued trying to keep up with the flood of email about jobs because we have found that all the posts we have been formatting for our local site are also available through many of the well maintained job sites for LIS. We have pulled together these many resources on our job resource page. The listserv will also be a source for some job announcement, especially local opportunities that may not be found on a larger job site.
