University of Kentucky's
Library and Information Science
Student Organization

Introduction

The School of Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky is part of the College of Communications and Information Studies. It is the only American Library Association accredited Library Science program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The student population is very diverse with students of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Student career interests are equally diverse and range from traditional Librarianship and school media, to Information Technology, Knowledge Management, and Archives.

LISSO is the social organization for the school. All school of library and information science students are members and are invited to attend any event. Each semester LISSO plans a comps review session to help students prepare for the comprehensive exam. Throughout the year LISSO hosts such events as a welcome-back picnic and a Halloween party. We also work with other student organizations to plan professional development events.
