On-campus interviews are coordinated and publicized through Wildcat CareerLink, powered by NACElink. Unless requested, all interviews are conducted in the Stuckert Building.
Employers may choose a pre-screened or open schedule format. To request an interview date, register here or call Caroline Hellard, Employer Relations Associate at 859-257-0550.
After an interview date has been confirmed:
- The Career Center will email a confirmation with a username and password.
- The organization will complete an online profile and post position information online to publicize their visit.
- Students and alumni will apply to interview by submitting a resume online.
- After reviewing the resumes of the pool of applicants, the organization may pre-select one student for each interview time slot. A schedule typically runs from 8:30AM to 4:30 PM and consists of 13 30-minute time slots. Interview selections are made online approximately two weeks before the interview date.
- After pre-selected applicants have had the opportunity to schedule an interview, other students and/or alumni meeting the hiring requirements may be allowed to schedule an interview in remaining interview blocks on a first come, first served basis.

Host Internships
An internship is a professional-level learning experience in the workplace. The benefits of internships to organizations include:
- Profitability: Interns provide professional work at less cost than full-time employees.
- Productivity: Interns may complete special projects or free professional staff from necessary but routine tasks.
- Human Resources: Interns may help alleviate personnel shortages during peak periods or summer vacations.
- Meaningful Contributions: Interns are enthusiastic, present fresh ideas, and are capable of contributing to the success of your company.
- Recruiting Advantage: Interns provide a pool of potential employees with experience and training.
An academic internship implies that a student will be seeking course credit for the experience; and academic internships may be either paid or unpaid. The student will complete a Learning Contract; obtain department approval and faculty supervision; enroll in a UK course; and receive a grade on his/her transcript.
A non-credit internship implies that a student will be working for the benefit of experience gained, but not seeking course credit. Employers offering non-credit internships should consider the intern as they would any other temporary employee. This option may be preferable to a student who does not need additional credit hours. Non-credit internships generally must be paid in order to comply with Department of Labor standards.
To participate:
- Establish a professional internship position and determine pay if possible.
- Develop a job description. (Approximately 75% of duties should be professional-level tasks.)
- Contact us at 859-257-2746 for a Wildcat CareerLink account.
- Submit your position online in Wildcat CareerLink. Resumes will be collected online and emailed directly to you.
- Interview students who respond to your listing and in whom you have an interest. Make an offer directly to the student you select.
- Fax or email confirmation of the offer to the Manager of Corporate Relations.
- Provide consistent, quality supervision for the student.
- Confer with the faculty sponsor as needed throughout the semester and complete an evaluation at the end of the term.
Post Job/Internship Announcements
To advertise your job announcements for career related full time positions, internships, and part-time positions,
Position announcements of full time jobs will be posted on Wildcat CareerLink and in our career library for 90 days. Internships are posted for 1 year cycles.
Although we will post job announcements from third party agencies in our library, third party agencies cannot access Wildcat CareerLink and their announcements will not be posted on Wildcat CareerLink.
Mentor Students
The UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network is a cooperative program between the James W. Stuckert Career Center, UK Alumni Association, and UK colleges. Alumni, employers, and friends of UK are invited to volunteer to assist students in their career development by serving as mentors or shadowing sites. The program provides the opportunity for students to learn more about the skills and responsibilities involved in a particular profession through a one-time meeting or ongoing relationship with a mentor.
Alumni, employers, and friends of the university throughout the US, and even who live and/or work internationally, may participate in the UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network. Mentors can choose their level of involvement, including the number of students who may contact them and the type of assistance they are willing to provide. In general, contact between mentors and students falls into one of the following:
- Informational Interviews - A conversation (in person, over the phone, or via email) with a professional that allows you to gain in-depth information about a specific career field or company.
- Shadowing - Spending a set period of time (usually between a half day and a full day) with a professional at their place of business observing the work that they do.
- Mentoring - An ongoing (short-term or long-term) relationship with a professional for the purpose of career development and job search assistance.
The UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network is completely online in a secure system that only UK students and alumni can access. Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible for our valuable mentors! We only ask that you complete your profile initially then update it as needed (at least annually). Students will have the responsibility to initiate contact with mentors they are interested in.
The first step to join the UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network is establishing a Wildcat CareerLink account. To do so, link here and click "Register." Complete the profile, and within 48 hours (but normally within minutes) you will receive further instructions. Once you have your Wildcat CareerLink account, follow these steps to create/update your profile:
- Log in to your Wildcat CareerLink account.
- Select the "Account" tab from the top of the screen.
- Complete the information under the "Personal Profile" and "UK Mentoring Network" tabs. After completing the information on each tab, select the "Save Locally" button on the bottom of the screen.
If you have any questions about the UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network, please contact Brooke Brown or (859)257-2751.
The UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network allows you, as a UK alumni, employer, or friend, to provide career-related guidance to UK students. By participating, you will provide valuable advice that will help students make purposeful career choices.
Be prepared to:
- Describe your career path, the responsibilities that you hold, and any advice that you have about job opportunities in your field
- Identify relevant skills/experiences for your career field or organization
- Suggest other networking opportunities (i.e. professional organizations, conferences, etc.)
- Describe the changes taking place in your industry
- Give a tour of your workplace
- Share any materials that might lead to a better understanding of your field/organization
- Suggest ways that the students can gain additional experience or training in your field
The UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network is not a job placement service, and students have been instructed not to ask for a job from mentors. If at any time the conduct of a UK student or alumni contacting you through the UK Mentoring & Shadowing Network is unacceptable, contact Brooke Brown or (859) 257-2751.
Access Resumes of Students/Alumni
An employer may review resumes of students/graduates registered with the Career Center. Resume books are maintained in Wildcat CareerLink; and require internet access as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Employers requesting resume book access must submit a copy of their job announcement and complete a access request form. If you would like access, contact Caroline Hellard, Employer Relations Associate at 859-257-0550 to receive the access request form.
Get Involved
There are many ways for an employer to be involved with Career Center services to increase your name recognition on campus and help students develop job search skills. Help out with Resumania events and critique resumes for students before career fairs. Provide interview advice during Mock Interview Marathons. Show students how to network during Speed Networking events. Contact the Employer Relations team for more ideas or to volunteer for upcoming events.
