Summary of AGTC Operations: Overview

Flowchart of Standard Operations

UK-AGTC facilitates high-throughput acquisition of biological samples and DNA sequence data at multiple stages of a project. To view our flexible menu of Schedules and fees, see Rates and Schedules. For a flowchart and narrative description of how samples and projects are processed though the facility, click here. In addition to sequence analysis, other genetic analysis methods that employ related technologies will be accommodated at UK-AGTC. These include microsatellite, SNP and AFLP analyses. Bioinformatic support for data produced through AGTC is provided free of charge. For info on our Bioinformatics support, click here. UK-AGTC is unique in that we also provide Users training and access to instrumentation for microbiology sample prep. A computerized DNA shearing device, high-throughput tissue homogenizer, liquid-handling robots, microplate washer/dispenser and a Linux station running such programs as Phred/Phrap/Consed are examples of User-employable equipment that allows a researcher to take their genomics-style project from organism to data file almost entirely in our one facility. Please contact our staff for more info on client training and instrument use.

A major enterprise of the AGTC is the exploration and implementation of methods to facilitate quality control. This is reflected by such aspects as the publication-quality user-downloadable DNA gel and quantitation photo section of our custom LIMS, the AGTC barcode-based sample tracking system, and our weekly Users' forum meetings. However, it is also essential that Users be thoroughly trained and familiar with the operations they will undertake, that the information provided in this site and in this online SOP manual be strictly adhered to and that users are attentive to any SOP updates. AGTC staff are eager to work with clients to optimize the design and implementation of their projects.

NOTE: The SOPs and information in this site are subject to change. They will certainly undergo several permutations as the facility matures. We will keep clients updated regularly. Meanwhile, please feel free to drop by the Users' Forums and the facility itself and ask "What's new?"
