NCTA: Upcoming Seminars

Through the Freeman Foundation-funded initiative, NCTA, the Asia Center has helped over 100 Kentucky secondary teachers develop their knowledge and teaching skills about East Asia.

Spring 2010 Seminar

WHERE:
Eastern Kentucky University- Richmond, KY      Perkins Building Room 214

WHEN:
Tuesday evenings, January 19– April 6, 2010, 5:30pm- 8:30pm

INSTRUCTOR:
Dr. Doug Slaymaker, UK Japan Studies Program

COMMITMENT:
•  Attend 30 hours of seminar sessions and a follow-up session in early 2011.

•  Complete assigned readings

•  Develop approved lesson plans, implement them during 2010, and write a follow-up report.

ELIGIBILITY: First priority is given to middle- and high-school teachers who are in the strongest positions to teach East Asia in their classes, but elementary educators may also apply. Highest priority is given to teachers of world geography, world history, world cultures, religion, economics, and language arts/literature. Media specialists, art teachers, world language teachers, guidance counselors, and Gifted and Talented teachers who are in a position to promote the sustained presence of Asia are also eligible to participate. In-service educators must be employed half-time or more in a K-12 public or private school to be eligible.
