Hardware and Software Requirements-BIO520

Minimum computer configuration for all students is:

Internet capable computer (Intel486 or comparable Mac)
Internet accessibility (computer microlabs or internet service provider)
Netscape Navigator 4.0 or Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
Telnet client (EWAN or Win95 Telnet)/FTP client (WinFTP minimun, CuteFTP or similar recommended)
Additional downloadable software will be needed as described

Sequence analysis program suites

SeqWeb: each BIO520 student will be provided a SeqWeb account on the UK Seqanal computer
ID's and passwords will be assigned from the administrator's account page.
BIO520 student should also sign up for regular UNIX accounts on seqanal.mi.uky.edu on this same page
- Access to GCG suite from command line
- Access to Consed family of programs
Non-BIO520 students can use other sequence analysis programs, but directions, files, and standard outputs will not match their programs.

Additional software to be downloaded may be added here, as well as certain handy files
- Rasmol
- CHIME (version 1.02 at this time)
NetMeeting by Microsoft or similar chat software for use in distance-learning mode
