This is alfalfa weevil larvae feeding on tips. This occurs in the spring before the first cutting for hay.
We saw clover leaf weevil larvae feeding in the lab. The symptoms are very much like alfalfa weevil damage but occurs at a
different time of year.
Alfalfa weevils are a key pest of the first cutting.
Alfalfa weevils are not important in spring-seeded fields because they migrate to alfafla in the fall. They are most likely to occur in established fields where there has been time for populations to build up.
