Round holes in soybeans could be a variety of things. We have our friend the bean leaf beetle that will do this early and late in the season because it is bivoltine (2 generations per year). But, so can longhorned and shorthorned grasshoppers southern corn rootworm beetle / spotted cucumber beetle and green cloverworms. You have a good list of possibilities. Think about other clues. "Edge-effect" damage could mean grasshoppers moving in from the side. Caterpillars might still be on the leaves if it is the green cloverworm.
