Duh!
There are several types of furry caterpillars that occasionally feed on crops but usually they are in limited areas of the field or there are only a few. Many are light yellow, this one just happens to be black.
"Look-a-likes" are:
Sorghum webworm is fuzzy but is easy to recognize because it only has 3 sets of prolegs in the middle of the abdomen. The other woolybears have 4 pairs.
