Introduction
Created in 1993 by the merger of the College of Communications with the College of Library and Information Science, the College of Communications and Information Studies includes the Department of Communication, the School of Journalism and Telecommunications, the School of Library and Information Science and the Graduate Program in Communication. In 2003, CCIS graduated more than 350 undergraduate and graduate students and is one of the fastest growing colleges at the University of Kentucky.
Our mission is to teach our students how to create, produce and disseminate effective communication messages; how to obtain, assess and verify information; and how they can make strategic use of information. We strive to create an environment in which teaching and learning complement discovery and research. CCIS offers baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees designed to provide our students with the knowledge and skills to become communication professionals in the 21st century.
