Teaching Facilities Appeal to Diverse Learning
Styles
The
teaching facilities provided in the department
allow for the latest technology to be used
to increase awareness in the field of communications.
Demonstration projectors and overheads have
been placed in several of the classrooms
to allow for more of an unique view of why
the field of communication is relevant to
technology.
The
setting is much like a business boardroom
conducting an important meeting---a round
table centers the scope of the area while
podiums are strategically placed along the
walls and in front a huge credenza shaped
desk that shelters a computer based system
that takes the form of a document presenter
and is nicknamed ELMO. ELMO provides hard
drive capability to allow projection, demonstrations,
and presentations to be presented more efficiently.
ELMO also shelters recording equipment for
audio and visual needs that cannot be provided
by a computer.

Main Classroom Renovated to Foster Collaborative
Learning
The
Department of Communication undergraduate
students are in for a surprise this fall.
The main room for communication studies
underwent a makeover this past summer. It
is amazing what a fresh coat of paint and
new carpet can do to a room. The walls are
no longer white but a fresh blue color with
carpet to match. Plus, no longer will a
student have to endure the annoying sound
of squeaking chalk because the chalkboards
are gone to make way for white boards. Along
with the white boards, brand new furniture
and desks have been added to the room for
student and faculty convenience. A new overhead
has been placed to allow presentations and
demonstrations to be seen more clearly on
a projection screen. Besides a new overhead,
a state of the art document presenter has
been placed in front of the room to PowerPoint
presentations and video viewing.
