The University of Kentucky College of Communications and Information Studies (CCIS) offers the only doctoral communication program currently available in the Commonwealth. As such, it approaches the study of communication as a social science with an emphasis on both
theory construction and
empirical research methods in order to generate new knowledge about communication as a core process. This essay provides a contemporary history of the graduate programs in Communication at the University of Kentucky and calls for increased collaboration among communication professionals to conduct research that will contribute directly to the well-being of the citizens living in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
