Welcome to the Graduate Program in Communication!
Hello and welcome to the website for the University of Kentucky Department of Communication Graduate Student Association! If you are an M.A. or Ph.D. student in the College of Communications and Information Sciences, you are automatically a member of the GSA. The GSA works hard each year to provide our fellow graduate students educational and professional development opportunities, such as colloquia and the annual research symposium. We also support the College of Communications and Information Sciences during visiting students' weekend and strategic planning sessions.
Even though grad school is serious business and hard work - we here at UK have a lot of fun when we're not working! We encourage faculty and student interaction outside of class at GSA sponsored faculty/student picnics, our annual Christmas party and regular Friday Afternoon Club sessions, usually held at restaurants close to campus. GSA's social committee also plans outings and events to provide fun and relaxation just for students, such as trips to Keeneland and make-your-own sushi night.
Our graduate students are some of the best and brightest budding young communication scholars, and graduates of our program have successfully found jobs in academia and corporate America. We represent a variety of research interests from interpersonal, to health communication, to mass communication, to new media and technology. We often collaborate on projects and share our work at professional conferences across the state, country and world.
If you are a current graduate student, then there is a place for you to contribute in one of the many GSA committees. If you are a prospective student, then hopefully this website will give you more information about what makes Kentucky's Department of Communication special. So take a look around at our committee structure, calendar, and pictures, and let us know if you have questions or want more information.
Thanks for stopping by - visit again soon!
Sincerely,
Bob Zuercher
2010-2011 GSA Co-Chair
