Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor


The School of Journalism and Telecommunications at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in journalism with an emphasis on new media.

Responsibilities: We are looking for an individual with a strong background in visual communication and the Web to teach the art, theory and practice of audio-visual storytelling. The ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for technology but will guide students to use the best electronic means for telling a story. Our next colleague also will push students to produce content that lends itself to continual updating in today’s real-time news environment.

The person hired will teach three courses per semester in areas that may include of audio-visual storytelling, web design/theory, cross media writing and photojournalism. Other duties will include advising students, serving the school and the community, and developing an agenda of creativity or research.

Qualifications: A graduate degree is preferred along with ten or more years of combined professional experience in traditional and on-line media. The ideal candidate will have experience in photojournalism, print and/or electronic journalism, web publishing, Flash, QuickTime, and Photoshop. University-level teaching experience is a plus. Anticipated start date is January 3, 2007.

The School of Journalism and Telecommunications is an ACEJMC-accredited unit of the
College of Communications and Information Studies. The school offers majors in journalism,
telecommunications, and integrated strategic communication. The University of Kentucky offers
an excellent computing environment and other facilities for research and instruction. The university is poised under the leadership of President Lee Todd to become a Top Twenty research institute (www.uky.edu/OPBPA/whytop20.htm).

Lexington is located in the heart of the Bluegrass Region, 90 miles from Cincinnati, 75 miles from Louisville, and 30 miles from the state capital in Frankfort. Lexington is the home of the Kentucky Horse Park and Keeneland Race Course. It’s a truly beautiful place to live and work!
