Visual Communication
Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor


The School of Journalism and Telecommunications at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in visual communication. This is a new position, awarded to the school in recognition of enrollment growth.

Responsibilities: We are looking for an individual with a strong background in visual communication to teach the survey course in visual concepts and theories as well as courses that might include photography, web design and/or multimedia theory and practice. The ideal candidate will have strong underpinnings in the theory of visual communication as well as practical applications of visual techniques.

The person hired will teach two courses per semester, serving students in all three of the school’s majors: Integrated Strategic Communication, Journalism and Telecommunications. Teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The school participates in a college-wide graduate program (master’s and doctoral) and this position includes graduate teaching responsibilities. Other duties will include advising students, serving the school and the community, and developing a research agenda.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in communication or related field; demonstrated ability to pursue an active program of research; an interest in seeking external funding for projects; and evidence of successful teaching at the university level. Professional experience related to visual communication is preferred.

The School of Journalism and Telecommunications is an ACEJMC-accredited unit of the College of Communications and Information Studies.
