University of Kentucky School of Library and Information Science

Student Organizations

There are a number of professional and social activities available to students in the School. All students are member of LISSO, the Library and Information Science Student Organization. In addition to this group, there are a number of professional associations in the field of library and information science that students should consider joining. Most have very attractive rates for student members. For a partial list of some of these major associations, visit our Professional Associations web page. ALA, SLA, ASIST and SAA (Society of American Archivists) all have formal student groups here; all students are welcome to participate in their activities. These student groups provide many leadership and learning opportunities as well as a social gatherings in which students can get to know each other.

Student Awards and Honors

awards are presented each year to outstanding students. In addition, a number of students are also inducted into Beta Phi Mu, the national honor society for library and information science. These student awards along with the Outstanding Alumnus Award, are given at the annual banquet held each year in the spring. The banquet is a time to honor graduating students as well as for alumni and friends of the school to gather and visit.
