Virtual Tour - Where Is What?
Important notices and announcements are posted by the entrance
of the CAIT as well as on the SLIS listserv. As you enter the CAIT, reserve
readings are on the shelves on the right. The photocopy
machine and the McConnell Center for
the Study of Children's Literature are also on the right. Next to the
copy machine is the help desk. The help
desk hours are posted at the desk. During those hours, please bring
all routine problems and questions to their attention.
Handout Area
Adjacent to the help desk are some plastic bins attached to a file
cabinet. These bins contain many useful handouts on many topics related
to the use of the computer systems here. Please spend a few moments browsing
these for items of interest. We have tried to anticipate many common questions
and problems in these sheets; please consult them before consulting us.
In the first alcove, you
will find:
-
The periodical collection, the McConnell Center's circulating children's
collection, a few reference tools (such as Sheehy's Guide), and a microfilm
reader.
The next alcove is the
Cataloging Support Center
-
It contains materials including LC Subject Headings, LC Classification
Schedules, AACR2 Cataloging rules, and the Sears and Dewey classification
guides.
The final alcove is for
CAIT Operations
-
It is the storage center for hardware and other computer peripherals.
The set of shelves at the back of the center contain online searching
materials. On the left side are database catalogs and aids from the online
services; on the right there is a collection of thesauri.
Student Lounge
The student lounge is located down the hallway at the back of the
CAIT in room 506. In this room you will find a large conference table,
couch and smaller round table. There is a phone
for use as available. There are shelves on the wall to the left of the
table for personal food and eating utensils.
Kitchen
There is a kitchen located across the hall from the student lounge.
Should you feel inclined to bring mugs, cups, silverware, etc that you
would like to use while you are on campus please put them on the shelves
in the lounge. We will not keep any mugs, cups or silverware that we find
in the kitchen cabinets or on the counters. Any items left in the
sink or on the counter will be thrown away. Please clean up after yourself
as there is no maintenance person that routinely cleans the kitchen area.
