Basic Operations
To use the adapter:
- Connect one end of the DC cable to the DC Output jack on the side of the adapter.
- Connect the other end to the DC Input jack on the back of the camcorder.
- Plug the adapter into a wall socket.
To use the battery:
NOTE: If you wish to use the battery you must alert the lab staff at least 24 hours prior to use so that the battery can be properly charged. Remember, lack of planning on your part does not constitute a crisis on ours!
To attach the battery:
- Align the reference arrow on the battery to the reference arrow on the back of the camcorder.
- Hold the battery firm against the camcorder while you slide it down in the direction of the arrow.
To remove the battery after use:
- Turn the camcorder off.
- Press and hold the Battery Eject button while removing the battery.
Inserting A Tape
- Press the Stop/Eject button to open the cassette compartment.
- Insert the tape with the safety tab up and the windows facing out.
- Press the cassette down gently until it lack in to place and close the compartment door using firm but gentle pressure until it latches closed.
Recording
Turn the camcorder on by moving the Camera/Off/VCR switch to camera. Press and hold the small button as you move the switch.
To use the viewfinder:
- Grasp the viewfinder and rotate it into position.
- Pull the viewfinder our and rotate the eyepiece into a comfortable position.
- DO NOT PULL ON OR TRY TO OPEN THE EYEPIECE. At no time should you force the viewfinder or eyepiece into position.
- Use the focus control (to the inner right of the eyepiece) to adjust the focus of the image in the viewfinder.
To use the LCD monitor:
- Open the LCD monitor by pressing the open button and gently pulling the monitor out until it is fully open (90°). The viewfinder will go off when the monitor is open.
- You can rotate the monitor around to achieve the best view. If the monitor is rotated around more than 90° then it becomes a mirror image (so the person being taped can see what they look like) and the viewfinder comes on.
- Adjust the image in the viewfinder using the controls on the left of the monitor.
To start and stop recording:
- Press and release the Rec/Pause button to start recording. The button is located on the front right of the camcorder--right under your fingertip when you have your hand in the handstrap. When you are actively recording, REC will appear in the viewfinder or on the LCD monitor.
- Press and release the Rec/Pause button again to stop recording. ; will now appear in the viewfinder or on the LCD monitor.
To ZOOM in and out:
The zoom controls are located on either side of the Rec/Pause button. Use your fingers to control the zoom amount.
To use the light:
- Set the Light/Auto/Off/On switch to Auto to allow the camera to turn the light on whenever it senses that it needs it.
- Set the switch to On to have the light on all the time.
- Note that using the light increases the speed at which the battery is consumed.

If you wish, you may schedule a tutorial session with Joe Miller or one of the lab staff prior to your use of the camcorder so that you can become accustomed to its operation.
