SCANNING IMAGES

using Paint Shop Pro on Station and the HP ScanJet 4C on Station 8

Please note: in order for the computer to communicate with the scanner you must power-on the scanner and then reboot the computer. Place the item you wish to scan face down in the upper right area of thescanner glass. Double-click on the Paint Shop Pro icon on the desktop to start this application
  1. From the FILE menu choose Import -> TWAIN -> Acquire
  2. The DeskJet scanning dialog and preview screen will appear
  3. Using the drop-down menu labeled Type, select the type of image you wish to scan. For most items, it is best to choose Sharp Millions of Colors
  4. Under Path: be sure Screen is chosen.
  5. Brightness, Contrast,, and Scaling should all be set automatically. These can be adjusted at this point, but it easier to wait and adjust these properties once the image has been scanned into Paint Shop Pro.
  6. Click on the Preview button to get a preview of you image on the screen.
  7. At this point you can select the final area you wish to scan using the mouse. If you move the mouse over the scanned image, a crosshair appears. Use this to draw a box around what you wish to scan.
  8. Click on the Final button. The image portion you selected will be scanned and placed as a new image in Paint Shop Pro.
  9. If you are finished scanning, click on the [X] in the upper right corner of the DeskJet scanning dialog box to close it. If you wish to scan more images, repeat steps 2, 6-11 until you have scanned all your images. Each will exist in Paint Shop Pro as a new image. From there you can modify, manipulate, and save the image

SCANNING IMAGES

using Paint Shop Pro and the UMAX Astra 12205 on Station 5

  1. Please note: in order for the computer to communicate with the scanner you must power-on the scanner and then reboot the computer.
  2. Place the item you wish to scan face down in the upper right area of the scanner glass.
  3. Double-click on the Paint Shop Pro icon on the desktop to start this application
  4. From the FILE menu choose Import -> TWAIN -> Acquire
  5. The VistaScan 32 scanning dialog and preview screen will appear
  6. Use the top drop-down menu to select the type of image you wish to scan. For most items, it is best to choose True Color RGB
  7. Be sure Reflective is chosen in the second drop-down menu.
  8. In the third drop-down menu, select the resolution at which you wish to scan. Remember, the higher the resolution, the higher the resulting image size. A resolution of 72 dpi should work for most images, especially for use on the web.
  9. The third drop-down menu is scaling. In most cases you should leave this set to 100%. It can be adjusted at this point, but it easier to wait and adjust it once the image has been scanned into Paint Shop Pro.
  10. Be sure that Auto Adj. is checked. This will automatically adjust brightness, gamma, color, etc.
  11. Click on the Preview button to get a preview of you image on the screen.
  12. At this point you can select the final area you wish to scan using the mouse. Move the mouse over the scanned image. Using a click and drag technique, draw a box around what you wish to scan.
  13. Click on the Scan button. The image portion you selected will be scanned and placed as a new image in Paint Shop Pro.
  14. If you are finished scanning, click on the [X] in the upper right corner of the VistaScan 32 scanning dialog box to close it. If you wish to scan more images, repeat steps 2, 6-12 until you have scanned all your images. Each will exist in Paint Shop Pro as a new image. From there you can modify, manipulate, and save the images.
