in the SLIS lab

The scanner that can scan text is located at station 6 (the HP scanner). Scanning text means you have some text you wish to scan and convert to a file (such as a text file or Word document).

If you turn on the scanner at station 6, you will have to restart (reboot) the computer so that it will recognize the scanner. Scanning Text (no graphics or pictures included).

  1. Start OmniPage. There is an icon located on the desktop for it.
  2. Make sure the text has been placed in the scanner.
  3. To scan the text:
  4. Convert the textual image into a text file or Word document (OCR it - [OCR stands for optical character recognition])
  5. When you are done scanning:
  6. Congratulations, you now have a text (not an image) file of the text page(s) you scanned! And don't forget to remove text from the scanner)
