The new titles/old numbers: The 3 cataloging courses in the curriculum have been revised and consolidated into 2, and the revisions are effective the spring term 1998. Here are the changes:

LIS655, ORGANIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE-I. Introduction to the theories and practice of bibliographic description and subject analysis. Covers the organization of both print and electronic information, including use of AACR2, (Unabridged) DDC, LCC, and LCSH. Prereq: LIS 602 (Not open to anyone who has taken LIS 550.)
LIS656, ORGANIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE-II. In-depth coverage of the theories and practice of bibliographic description and subject analysis. Covers the organization of both print and electronic information, and authority control. Emphasis is on problems in practice, special case studies, current issues and future trends of description, subject analysis and online authority control. Prereq: LIS 550 or LIS 655
The new course: Last summer, Prof Waldhart taught LIS 690 Information Needs and Uses. The course now has its own number and is a part of the curriculum:
LIS 607 Information Needs and Uses. An examination of research, and professional
knowledge, relating to the information needs, information seeking behavior
and the use of information by individuals and groups in society. Consideration
is given to how this knowledge influences the
development of information systems, sources and services. Prereq: Graduate
standing (Obviously, not open to anyone who took the course last summer
as LIS 690.)
