The curriculum plan for a Certified School Media
Librarian Advancing to Rank II is designed to enhance and enrich the
skills and knowledge of the certified school media librarian.
Thirty-six (36) semester hours are required to complete the M.S.L.S.
degree. Thirty-two (32) semester hours and the completion of the
Advanced Teacher Portfolio are required
before the student can apply for Rank II teaching status. Candidates
for Rank II must meet with the academic faculty advisor to plan a
program of study that will meaningfully contribute to the
performance and professional growth of the certified school media
specialist. Coursework must be completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0
and adhere to all requirements of the M.S.L.S. degree (for further
information refer to the School of Library and Information Science
Bulletin).

Library and Information Science.
- _______Transcripts of prior coursework/degree(s).
- _______Evidence of School Librarian Certification.
- _______Undergraduate GPA (grade point average) of 2.75 (on a
scale where A=4.0) and 3.0 for graduate coursework.
- _______GRE score of 450 or higher on verbal and a score of 400
quantitative or analytical.

All of the above are considered in admission to the program. If
the School of Library and Information Science accepts a student into
the master's program, the student will also be accepted into the
school media librarianship program, provided the student has a valid
teaching certificate.
Midpoint Requirements:
- _______Completion of a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours
of course work with minimum GPA of 3.0.
- _______ Portfolio Components:
a._______Personal philosophy statement of professional
practice as an experienced school media librarian.
b._______Acceptable completion of at least two portfolio tasks
that address at least two Experienced Teacher Standards and at
least two subsections of Content Standard II for School Media
Librarian.
- _______Interview with Academic Advisor.
Exit Requirements:
- _______Completion of a minimum of thirty-two (32) semester
hours of coursework with minimum GPA of 3.0 for advancement to
Rank I teaching status.
- _______Completion of thirty-six (36) semester hours of
coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for M.S.L.S.

a._______Demographic Sheet.
b._______Table of Contents.
c._______Personal philosophy statement for professional

d._______Matrix indicating which Experienced
Teacher Standards are addressed in portfolio entries.

least four Experienced Teacher Standards (including Standards
I and IX) and four subsections of the Content Standard for
School Media Librarian (total of four to eight entries or
artifacts).
f._______Rationale for how each Experienced Teacher

h._______Signed statement affirming content is student's own
work.
i._______Signed release form allowing th University of
Kentucky, School of Library and Information Science,
