Student AwardsStudents of the School are eligible for a number of special awards, including:
Awards are given at the annual banquet. Awards are awarded to members of the annual graduating class, which includes May graduates as well as those from the previous August and December. Beta Phi MuBeta Phi Mu is the international honorary society in library and information science. Membership in the honorary requires faculty nomination, and each spring the faculty of the School select those students whom they wish to nominate for membership. The Beta Phi Mu bylaws state the conditions that govern faculty nominations: To be eligible for nomination, a student must have a grade point average in our program of at least 3.75. Moreover, not more than 25% of the "annual graduating class" may be nominated. And, the bylaws state that in making their selections, faculty are to pay particular attention to the "professional promise" of those under consideration. The "annual graduating class" of a year includes May graduates as well as those from the previous August and December. The induction ceremony takes place each year at the School's awards banquet. Melody Trosper AwardThe Melody Trosper Award is given to a student who is selected by the School faculty from the annual graduating class. The Award is given for excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. Selection is made in the spring and presentation is made at the awards banquet. The Award was established by the family and friends of Melody Trosper as a memorial to her. Melody, a 1980 graduate of the School, died in a car accident soon after completing the program.

LISSO Leadership AwardThe LISSO Leadership Awared is given to a student who demonstrates leadership in the classroom and contributes to the education of others. The award is presented at the annual banquet. This year's winner is Tammy Kirk. Past winners are: 1988 Lisa Armato
