Introduction
The School of Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky is part of the College of Communications and Information Studies. It is the only American Library Association accredited Library Science program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The student population is very diverse with students of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Student career interests are equally diverse and range from traditional Librarianship and school media, to Information Technology, Knowledge Management, and Archives.
LISSO is the social organization for the school. All school of library and information science students are members and are invited to attend any and every event. Each semester LISSO plans a comps review session to help students prepare for the comprehensive exam. Throughout the year LISSO hosts such events as monthly dinners and a Halloween party. We also work with other student organizations to plan professional development events.
In order to maintain successful and meaningful events, we ask all SLIS students to contribute a minimum $5 dues each year they are in the program. Dues may be paid in cash or check to any LISSO officer or to Lousetta Carlson, SLIS Administrative Assistant. If checks are used, please make them paid to "Library and Information Science Student Organization".
