Scott O'Dell, you are a
Newbery Medal Award winning author of historical fiction. Your novels set
the standard for historical fiction. In fact, there is an award
given out in your name to the best young adult historical fiction awards
each year. You were chosen for this honor because you are so skillful at
weaving interesting fiction into actual historical events. At the press
conference, you will be expected to defend the historical fiction genre.
You also need to be prepared to answer questions regarding the story elements
of your book. Be ready to discuss and describe the setting, characters,
plot(problem), events, and conclusion you included in your novel.
Please prepare a "press release"
including a definition of "authentic", and at least two points of
interest for each of the questions below.
