Classes

The only class within the UK SLIS program specifically geared towards archives is LIS 643, Archives and Manuscripts Management. The course is taught by Professor Bill Marshall, Curator of Manuscripts in UK Special Collections. It is usually scheduled in the spring semester, but is occasionally taught both fall and spring.

Another course within the UK SLIS program which is popular with archives students is LIS 653, Preservation Management. This course is taught by Becky Rider, Head of the Preservation Department in UK Libraries. It is offered during the fall semesters.

Other archives courses are offered to UK students through the Southeast Archives Education Collaborative (SAEC). This cooperative program includes UK, Louisiana State University, Auburn University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Indiana University, and allows students from those institutions to participate in distance learning archives courses using interactive television. (For more about SAEC, please visit their website.)

The upcoming (projected) SAEC schedule for the next year includes these courses:

*Currently, this course is not being offered at UK. If the course is added to the UK schedule, we'll update this page with specific days and times for this course.
