Information and Resources for Children

This is is a preliminary syllabus for this course as it is the first time it has been offered.

6. Storytelling -- Each student will select a story for an oral presentation, learn to tell it in his/her own words, not to exceed eight minutes, and then present it to a small group in class.

7. Book Talk - Each student will prepare and present to the class a book talk on three related titles appropriate for a specific grade level. (For example, science fiction for grade 6.) Titles may be selected from the class reading list, with the exception of required books, but others may be promoted as well. The presentation should be six to eight minutes in length.

8. Midterm Project - Students will be required to write a paper on either an author or an illustrator of children's books. Using information from at least ten sources, the paper should include biographical information, discussion of the individual's career and most notable work, views about writing or illustrating books for young people, and any other topics relevant to children's literature.

9. Final Exam - The final exam will be based on material presented in class, as well as knowledge of books read and discussed in class.
