-- Undergraduate Admissions --
  1. Who needs to file an application with the College?

    Incoming freshmen and students transferring from a college or university other than the University of Kentucky do not need to file an application with the College of Communications and Information Studies. These students do need to file an admissions application with the University of Kentucky. Information about applying to the University is available here: UK Undergraduate Admission: Prospective Students.

    Students transferring from another major within the University of Kentucky to a major within the College of Communications and Information Studies do need to file an application form prior to the priority registration period. The appropriate deadlines are listed in the University calendar as approved times to change majors.


  2. Who is my academic advisor?

    For lower-division students (pre-major status), pre-ISC, pre-Journalism, and pre-Telecommunications students are advised by Cathy Hunt (Room 127 Grehan, (859) 257-4839 x 5, cshunt00@uky.edu) and Ashley Clark (Room 128 Grehan, (859) 257-4839 x 4, ashley.clark@uky.edu). Pre-Communication students should contact Steven Ingram (Room 227 Grehan, (859) 257-3621, swingr1@uky.edu).

    Upper-division students (major status) majoring in ISC, Journalism, or Telecommunications should contact Lisa Brown (Room 134 Grehan, (859) 257-3904, labrow2@uky.edu) to find out their assigned faculty advisor. Communication majors should contact Steven Ingram (Room 227 Grehan, (859) 257-3621, swingr1@uky.edu) to find out who their assigned faculty advisor is.

    You can have an information packet about undergraduate programs available at the College of Communications and Information Studies sent to your home by filling out the following form: Information Packet Request Form.

  1. Who should I contact to apply for admission to the Graduate Program (M.A. or Ph.D.)?


  2. To apply for admissions to the M.A. or Ph.D. programs at the College of Communications and Information Studies, one must first apply for admissions to the Graduate School: UK Graduate School Admission.

    You should also send directly to Dr. Derek R. Lane, Associate Dean of the Graduate Program in Communication:
    1) three letters of reference focusing on your academic ability
    2) a two-to-three page biographical sketch. This sketch should include a statement of why you want to pursue a graduate degree and your reasons for applying to our program.

  3. Who is my advisor?

    Your advisor will be assigned to you before you start the graduate program.


  4. Who should I contact if I want to take a "restricted" class (I am majoring in a program outside of the College of Communications and Information Studies)?

    Contact the professor teaching the class you wish to take first. Please note that class size is restricted by space available, and that students of the College of Communications and Information Studies will given course registration priority.


  5. How do I apply to the School Media Certification Program or the Master's Degree Program at the School of Library and Information Science?

    To apply for admissions to the School of Library and Information Science, one must first apply for admissions to the Graduate School: UK Graduate School Admission.

    A seperate application form must also be sent to the School of Library and Information Science. This form is available here: SLIS Forms.

  5. Can I contribute online?

    Yes. The UK central Development Office is set up to handle on-line contributions. You can access that information by going to https://iweb.uky.edu/giveonline/.

    Final grades are no longer mailed to students. Grades are available online: SIS/IDMS on the Web.
