Introduction

Students learn how to design, manage and evaluate communication processes involving individuals, groups and the public. They develop strong oral, written and interpersonal skills, and acquire the ability to analyze messages, media and communication effects. During the past fifteen years, the department has developed a health communication research program supported by more than $30 million in federal grants. This extramural funding places the department in the top one per cent of communication programs in the country. It is also an integral part of the University Studies Program, preparing undergraduates from other disciplines in oral communication skills.
