Please Read:
In past years, the SSTARS poster printing operation in W.T. Young Library has provided free poster printing services to the students and faculty of the University of Kentucky. Please share our thanks for past support of those operations.
As of July 1, 2011, SSTARS poster printing operations will cease. We will no longer request funds or supplies, and we will not be able to provide free poster printing; however, UKIT’s Academic Technology Group (which is now the home of the SSTARS services), will continue to provide file conversion assistance and ordering service to students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty who have poster presentation needs.
Academic Technology will continue to provide the following support services:
For student or faculty posters that have already been created (but not printed)
For faculty who need help with the design and layout of a poster
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dan O’Brien at dpobri2@uky.edu.
SSTARS Poster Service Policy
1) The SSTARS Center Poster Service hours are 1-3 PM MWF and 12:30-5PM TR. To have a poster printed with the SSTARS Center poster service, you must fill out and attach your poster to the poster printing request form. After you have filled out the request form a member of the SSTARS Center staff will review your file, and communicate with you if there are any difficulties. After review, we will forward your file and information to Lynn Imaging for printing. We will respond to your request within one business day, and Lynn Imaging will print your file within 2 business days of receiving the file from the SSTARS Center. With this in mind, we request that you submit your files to us at least 3 business days before needing the poster.
2) Posters should be submitted in the poster printing request form as a PPT, PPTX or PDF file. Your page setup should be set to the size you want the poster to be (typically not exceed the page size of 56 X 36 ( in inches) landscape/portrait). Please proofread your posters before you submit them to be printed. We will only re-print posters due to technical and application problems on our part.
3) The default paper Lynn Images uses on posters is a photo quality paper. If you have specific instructions for the poster, please include these in the special request field on the poster request form. We will try to accomodate all requests. Some options that are offered include different paper types, outdoor inks/paper, lamination and mounting. (Please note that these options may increase your final cost.)
4) The best way to place images in your PowerPoint poster is by using jpg files and insert>object rather than 'cut and paste'. Performing this operation keeps the file sizes low and makes them easier to transfer. PowerPoint files (*.ppt) greater than 15MB sometimes create enormously large print files and inadvertently crash the memory of the computer when being sent to the plotter.
5) Call Grant (MWF 1-3PM and TR 12:30-5PM) at (859)257-9260, or Dan (M-F 8AM-5PM) at (859)257-2641 with any poster printing questions at least 3 business days before needing your poster.
6) Patrons are responsible for picking up their finished poster and other related materials once their print job is completed. The SSTARS center will not be responsible for any materials left with us once the print job is completed. The pickup location, unless otherwise specified and verified by Lynn Imaging is the basement of the William T. Young Library, behind the Cisco Systems student computer lab help desk.
