The 5th CIRP International Workshop on Modeling
of Machining Operations is a day and a half workshop scheduled
to be held just prior to the North American Manufacturing
Research Conference (NAMRC) at Purdue University, West Lafayette,
IN on May 20-21, 2002.
The workshop, initiated at the 1998 NAMRC,
is the fifth in the series and is sponsored by CIRP, SME/NAMRI
and National Science Foundation. The workshop aims to foster
an open discussion of the state of development and application
of machining models and to identify the most promising directions
for future research. In particular, a major objective of the
workshop is to establish a dialogue between those who apply
machining models to production processes and problems and
the model developers. To achieve this, both formal presentations
and breakout group discussions are scheduled to promote opportunities
for active interaction by researchers and representatives
from academic institutions, government agencies and industry.
A bound volume of formal presentations will
be available to participants at the workshop. Summaries of
the discussions and conclusions will be available shortly
after the workshop.
