Chinese 101 class (The first semester for beginner)

This is a course in first semester Chinese language. The course is designed for students with no significant background in the Chinese language. We are going to focus on the practical use of the language: speaking, listening, reading and writing Chinese characters. Focus will be given to train students' ability to distinguish by ear, to write, and to pronounce all the individual syllables in the phonetic system of Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin). Students will acquire the ability to use actively the forms of basic Chinese grammar and Chinese character writing will be required in this course. In addition, Chinese culture and art will be introduced through language experience as well as hands-on activities such as Chinese calligraphy, paper-cuts and crafts and so on.

Chinese 202 class (The second semester for intermedia)

This is a course designed for students who have been learned Chinese language for at least one semester. The students should have the basic ability of speaking, listening, reading and writing (about 100 Chinese characters) and also can use the basic Chinese grammar to communicate with each other. We are going to focus on the practical use of the language: speaking, listening more fluent and increase about 250 new Chinese characters for writing. In addition, we would advance the quantity and content of the reading in order to improve the expressive capability in passage and  help students to prepare for real life experience in China or similar situation.

Business Chinese

This is a course designed for improving both basic Chinese language skill as well as the professional ability to accomplish business purposes in Chinese. With a basic understanding of Chinese you can start this class and promote your listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese. Chinese culture will also be included and focus will be put on daily communication with a business background. It sounds like a more specific course but I am sure you'll get more here.

Tai Chi Class ( Level 1 )

Tai Chi is a kind of Chinese Wushu (martial arts), and is a part of China's rich cultural heritage. Recent research has shown that Tai Chi is a very good physical exercise. It can improve the balance of human body and sense of balance. Improve the physical coordination ability of the person. as it can help the body defend against disease and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Benefits of practicing Tai Chi are long lasting. This class is designed for students without any Tai Chi background.
Course content: The eight type of Simplified Yang-Style Tai Chi (Level1)

Tai Chi Sword Class ( Level1&2)

Tai Chi Sword is one of many Tai Chi routines. It is a kind of traditional Chinese swordplay, and is a combination of Tai Chi principles and fencing techniques. Like Tai Chi, Tai Chi Sword benefits your health. It is also a beautiful and entertaining demonstration of Chinese heritage. This  class is designed to provide students with a foundation.
Course content: There are 16 actions in the 32 type Yang-style Tai Chi Sword.

Chinese Kung Fu Fan ( Level1 )

The Chinese kung fu fan draws upon the essence of Chinese traditional martial arts. It brings together various styles of traditional martial arts forms: Tai chi movements and beautiful stage performance. Colorful fans and martial arts skills create a beautiful combination, making this a classic fighting skill whose appeal spans generous. Beautiful choreography, tampering force with mercy, and a strong sense of rhythm and music provide learners with enlightening exercise for the body, mind and spirit. This  class is designed to provide students with a foundation.

Chinese Fencing ( Level1 )

$120 per student including supplies and materials
Fencing has profound cultural connotation: it advocates striking with kindness and the weak overcoming the strong. There are many sword forms: Single Sword, Double Sword, Short-Tassel Sword and Long-Tassel Sword. There are also many fencing styles; from “Demure Sword” and “Walking Sword”, to “Soft Sword” and “Drunk Sword”, etc. Nowadays, fencing in China has three functions: the first is physical fitness, as fencing can increase flexibility and balance; the second is entertainment, as it is a martial arts/dance performance; and the third is athletics, or advancing one’s skill level through drills and practice.
This  class is designed to provide students with a foundation.

Chinese Calligraphy Class

Through our elementary course for Chinese calligraphy, the learners will know the basic knowledge of Chinese calligraphy, technical skills, artistic styles, historical development and actual skills.

Chinese Painting Class

Through our elementary course for Chinese painting, the learners will know the basic knowledge of Chinese painting, technical skills, artistic styles, historical development and actual skills for painting.
Class Content:
1. Systemic introduction of Chinese painting, which includes its historical development, basic technique skills, artistic styles and so on.
2. Study of the general rules and techniques of drawing Chinese painting and the common instrument used in the process.
3. Practical practice of copying famous Chinese painting works ranging from landscape painting, flower-bird painting and figure painting.

Spring Break Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Camp(April 2nd - 6th)
This is a one-week Chinese culture camp taken place during the spring break. Simple Chinese language and all sorts of cultural activities will be the focus of this camp.   For students from grades 3 - 6

Summer Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Camp
and Study Tour to China

This camp consists of two parts: a 3-week summer camp focusing on Chinese language and culture for students from grades 8-12. Campers will learn Chinese language with experienced Chinese teachers. After three weeks of camp, students can apply to go on a two-week study tour to China subsidized by the Confucius Institute of University of Kentucky.
