UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS
The School of Architecture is a limited enrollment, selective admission program which has offered an NAAB accredited architecture degree since 1965. The program was changed to an accredited Master of Architecture degree preceded by the pre-professional Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree in 2003. For many years admission to the program in architecture consisted of the Architectural Admission Test consisting of a series of timed design exercises. The test was offered once yearly on the UK campus on the first Saturday in March.
Beginning with the entering class of Fall 2008, the method of selecting applicants for the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree consists of the standard application procedure for University admission plus a unique portfolio for architecture. This procedure, called The Personal Portfolio, will permit the applicant to work out designs and create art for specified projects within a recommended time frame. Learn more.
GRADUATE ADMISSIONS
The School of Architecture admits students through a selective admissions process.
The Graduate Program of the School of Architecture evaluates prospective student portfolios for breadth and variety of media, scale, and subject matter. Portfolios should demonstrate ability in areas of architectural design and communication. The graduate admissions committee evaluates portfolios for competence in architectural design, coherent demonstration of visual and spatial abilities expressed through a basic understanding of material and construction, drawing ability, and the use of color in two-dimensional and three-dimensional work.
Applicants to the Graduate Program of the School of Architecture must also apply to and be admitted to the Graduate School of the University of Kentucky.
