Due Date: CLOSED
University-wide Call for Proposals on Social and Environmental Justice
Deadline for Proposals: CLOSED
The College of Arts and Sciences has provided $15,000 to the Interdisciplinary Programs to sponsor an initiative for the academic year 2007-2008 on the theme of “Social and Environmental Justice.”
We hereby call for proposed contributions to this conversation. Any member or group of members from the UK community may submit a proposal.
Those Interdisciplinary Program Directors not making their own proposals and A&S Associate Dean Leonidas Bachas will review these proposals and allocate funding.
Criteria for selection of proposals for funding from the A&S grant will include ensuring that perspectives and expertise from humanities, arts, social science, and scientific disciplines are well represented in the set; that all events (except formal courses) be open to the public; and that all events be intellectually accessible to a broad, varied audience, including students and those who are not academics.
We strongly encourage offering courses that will link to the initiative theme. Topics such as those following (as well as MANY others) might be included in planning courses or events:
As indicated previously, proposals will be reviewed for partial support from the grant by a panel of the IDP Directors and Associate Dean Bachas. The Directors and Associate Dean will work with those proposing projects/events on securing other funding. So, for example, an interdisciplinary program (e.g., Islamic Studies) or an individual or a group of individuals might propose a speaker for which some portion of the grant would be allocated toward the cost of that event. We would then work with the applicant(s) to identify other sources of support and help to secure enough funding for us to commit to the event.
