Historic Preservation Admissions

MASTER OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION
ADMISSION STEPS AND REQUIREMENTS

Must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
Must have a B grade point average at the undergraduate level.
Must apply to the Department of Historic
Preservation.
Must apply separately to the University of Kentucky Graduate School.
Must demonstrate ability in writing, drawing, drafting, and/or photography through submission of a portfolio:
- Portfolio will NOT be returned to applicants and should not include original work.
- Portfolio should be of quality and succinctly presented.
- Portfolio should be letter size (no binder) and not exceed 20 sheets.
- All included material should present visual
  acuity and graphic abilities through, but not limited to, a selection of: architectural/engineering drawings, painting, drawings, prints, graphic design, or photography. Exhibited work should be accompanied by brief statement of intent, degree of involvement (where not self-evident) and/or the rationale for the work.
Must submit three letters of recommendation.
Must submit a personal essay.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION

A minimum score of 1000 points on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), an acceptable score on the analytical section of the GRE, and an interview with the faculty increase the applicant's chances for admission.

Undergraduate courses in American history, art history, and architectural history also enhance the applicant's chances for admission. Applicants may be provisionally admitted while they make up admission deficiencies. Applicants must submit separate applications for admission to the program and to the UK Graduate School.
