A Campaign of Distinction
- The campaign total of $1.082 billion exceeded the $1 billion goal.
- As of 2006, 31 American universities had completed campaigns of $1 billion or more and 222 more were engaged in same.
- The university–wide campaign began with a quiet phase in 1997, continued with a public campaign in 2000, and concluded on December 31, 2007.
Widespread Support for Kentucky’s Flagship University
- As one would expect, alumni led the giving. 60,220 (46%) of the 129,689 donors were alumni and they gave 63% of the gifts. Other donors include non–alumni (28% of the gifts) corporations, foundations, organizations, and trusts.
UK’S Endowment now in Top 100
- UK’s endowment has grown from $195 million on June 30, 1997 to more than $956 million on December 31, 2007.
- It is ranked 82 out of 785 institutions tracked by the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
Large Gifts Show Significant Commitment
The campaign has attracted gifts exceeding $1 million from 66 donors, with many of them giving more than one gift. Gifts exceeding $1 million accounted for nearly $308 million of the total. Other gift levels show:
- Gifts of $500,000 but less than $1 million = $134.4 million
- Gifts of $100,000 but less than $500,000 = $259 million
- Gifts of $25,000 but less than $100,000 = $167.7 million
- Gifts of $10,000 but less than $25,000 = $63 million
- Gifts of less than $10,000 amounted to nearly $150 million
