What is the Student Development Council?
The Student Development Council (SDC) assists the Office of Development
in raising money to benefit UK and
to promote the university. The council is made up of 40 students
selected for their leadership, creativity and motivational skills.
SDC’s
purpose is to promote and encourage scholarship, leadership and
service activities that will stimulate commitment and philanthropy
later in active alumni.
Visit the SDC web site to find out more about the SDC programs and projects:
- Senior Challenge educates seniors on the importance of philanthropy to UK.
- Young Fellows encourages seniors to join the UK Fellows Society. Students may join while completing a bachelor’s degree or within one year of completing the bachelor’s degree. They receive the same benefits as UK Fellows, but have five extra years to complete the commitment.
- SDC Scholarships are awarded each spring semester. SDC accepts applications, interviews undergraduate and graduate students, and awards several $1,000 scholarships.
- Best
of UK is a survey
done in conjunction with the Kentucky Kernel that asks students to
rank their favorites on campus and in the Lexington area.
- Partners for Excellence is a program that recognizes campus organizations that have contributed time and effort to improve UK and the surrounding community.
