Alumni Keep Learning At Winter College

“I really enjoy all the good news about UK,” said alumna Patricia Bollinga (EDU ’55) of her experience at Winter College 2008. This was the fourth year for this event, held in Naples, Florida each February for UK alumni and friends.

Participants responded enthusiastically to the daylong program. Pamela Mathis–Yon (A&S ’80, SW ’82) commented, “I enjoy all the information about the university and the directions they are going. It is uplifting.” Cal Grayson (ENG ’49) added, “I’ve attended all of the Winter Colleges and learn more each year about UK’s programs.” First time attendee Kathy Erwin described the experience as “way beyond what I expected!”

This year’s topics and speakers included College of Pharmacy Dean Kenneth Roberts who spoke on Pharmacy and Patient Care in the 21st Century; Nancy Cox, Associate Dean in Agriculture, who explained the Equine Initiative; Medical College Dean Jay Perman, who described a program to improve the health of children in an inner city Lexington school; and Dr. Everett McCorvey, Endowed Chair in Opera Studies, who outlined UK’s outreach program in Opera.

President Lee Todd was the keynote speaker and those attending appreciated his update on the University. Dr. Robert R. Goodin (A&S ’61) especially enjoyed Dr. Todd’s comments. “[I hope] he will be able to attend all programs, with his knowledge, enthusiasm, intelligence, and credibility.”
